The beast from the east returns, but this time in the form of a party girl!
Yes, you read that right. In “Basic Betch,” Wils takes on the persona of Boozybetch, the stereotypical ditz who lives for the nightlife, oblivious to the fact that she is the joke of everyone around her.
“We have all met that girl who sleeps all week, parties all weekend, and is out to stir drama that she is sure only she can solve,” says Wils. “I’ve met so many of these fierce girls since moving to Los Angeles and this song is for them!”
Reminiscent of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl,” Wils’ pop urban jam is unlike anything he has produced before. “I wanted to write something that was light hearted and fun; and that was a 180 turn from my previous records.”
Wils is best known WTF, his album that received several noms from Los Angeles Music Awards and won Best Pop Album of the Year at the Hollywood F.A.M.E Awards.
Last year, Wils came out publicly to fans with the single, “Open Up Babe”. Its music video featured Wils running through flower fields, hand-in-hand, with a stud.
Today, he says WTF was a product of growing up in the toxically masculine Asian culture where anything feminine was seen as “too gay”. “Now that I am out and proud, I’m embracing my feminine side,” he continues. “I’m owning it and like Boozybetch, I’m doing it unapologetically.”
“Basic Betch” is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and all other major retailers. For more information, follow Wils on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter @heywils.
