For four long years Kesha has been trapped in legal lock-down because of an ongoing battle with her former producer, Dr. Luke. Last Friday Kesha broke her silence with her first new single, Praying.
“This song is about coming to feel empathy for someone else even if they hurt you or scare you,” Kesha wrote in an essay for Lenny Letter. “It’s a song about learning to be proud of the person you are even during low moments when you feel alone. It’s also about hoping everyone, even someone who hurt you, can heal.”
This is a new Kesha we haven’t seen—gone is the girl who’s partying until down; replaced by a woman full of emotion and reflection. Praying shows us another side of Kesha—one of that who’s been wronged and hurt but not broken. “You brought the flames and you put me through hell / I had to learn how to fight for myself,” she sings.

Not only do we get chills down our spine when we hear her vocals, but these fans absolutely lost it when they heard that high note for the first time. It’s at the 4:21 if you want to play it over and over.
