Watch James Franco and Zachary Quinto get down in this new trailer for the upcoming release of “I Am Michael.”
James Franco goes gay—again!—in the film “I Am Michael” from director Justin Kelly making dreams come true for young gay men across the globe. The movie debuted at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and has finally found a theatrical release for audiences eagerly awaiting to see Franco engage in some man-on-man action. A trailer has dropped ahead of the film’s January 2017 release to tease the audience with what’s to come.
During the two-minute video, we see Franco as Michael Glatze— former gay rights activist, co-founder of YGA Magazine (Young Gay America) and long-time editor of XY magazine. Glatze has a come-to-Jesus moment, where he renounces his homosexuality and becomes a Christian pastor.
This will be the second time Franco collaborates with director Kelly. The pair first teamed up in the 2016 crime-drama “King Cobra.” The film centers on the 2007 murder of gay adult film producer Bryan Kocis by two aspiring producers (James Franco as Joe and Keegan Allen as Harlow) who wanted to buy out Corrigan’s performing contract.
“I Am Michael” is based on a 2011 New York Times Magazine profile on Glatze by Benoit Denizet-Lewis, titled “My Ex-Gay Friend.”
You may remember “I am Michael” made headlines two years ago following a Huffington Post interview with “Teen Wolf” star Charlie Carver. The MTV star spoke about a steamy threesome his character has with two others played by Franco and Zachary Quinto. Carver described the scene as “hot as hell,” but that had less to do with the sex and more to do with where the movie was filmed.
While Carver revealed stripping down and making out with the guys was not nerve-wracking at all, he did dish that everyone in the room was quite uncomfortable…and sweaty.
“We were in an attic in Long Island in the middle of the summer… and the air conditioning was broken,” Carver said. “So it was just… uh, memorable?”
Aside from Franco, the film will stars Quinto as Bennett, an architect and former boyfriend of Michael. We will also see Emma Roberts, who will play Rebekah Fuller, a young Christian woman that Michael falls in love with after he sheds his love for men. Avan Jogia will play Nico, a gay Buddhist that Glatze meets and falls for briefly. Carver will is playing Tyler, a college student that becomes involved with both Micheal and Bennett. And Daryl Hannah appears as Deborah, she runs a Colorado Buddhist retreat where Michael goes to find solace.
“I Am Michael” is scheduled to arrive as a limited theater release and through video on demand on Jan. 27, 2017, by Brainstorm Media.
