Complete Guide to Gay Disney Villains2 min read

Disney movies are rife with evil gay villains

Beauty and the Beast may have treated Disney audiences to the studio’s first on-screen overtly gay romance, but there have always been gay Disney characters. Problematically, it seems that most of the gayish characters have always been closeted gay Disney villains. This crypto-gay-as-villain pattern portrays characters with stereotypically gay qualities in a negative light.

You’ve probably thought that Scar from The Lion King  was a jealous old queen, or Aladdin’s  Jafar with his faaaabulous hats was definitely in the closet. King Candy from Wreck-It Ralph, Hades from Hercules, Governor Ratcliffe from Pocahontas and Shere Khan from The Jungle Book were definitely all gay. So many of 90s “Disney Renaissance” films featured gay villains, it almost feels like Anita Bryant (antigay activist who got a pie in her face) served as creative consultant.

Of course it’s not just Disney that has a penchant for featuring gay villains. Just take a look at Professor Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective sashay across the screen and live his life. You can even see this effeminate-man-as-evil trend in movies going back to the beginnings of Hollywood.

Gay Disney Villain Super Cut

If you’re not convinced, take a look at this super cut of evil sissies by author and gay-sounding filmmaker David Thorpe from his documentary Do I Sound Gay?

Now that we’re on the same page, a Twitter user by the name of @_Hate_Holly_ broke down all the gay villains into gay stereotypes—flawless.

Let’s not forget the villainous Disney lesbians!
