Joey Luther Proposal

A beautiful moment happened yesterday, November 10th, in New York in the shadow of the surprising election results. Joey Grant Luther proposed to his boyfriend, Julio Nuño, on the concourse of Penn Station, New York. The surprise proposal was complete with a five-person Mariachi band and cheering friends and on-lookers—a feel-good magic moment we need after this rough few days.

I had a five-person Mariachi band playing his favorite song and had him walk down the long staircase of the Penn Station rotunda.

Joey, a Virginia native living in New York, met his boyfriend Julio, a Mexican citizen from Guadalajara, Mexico, in Penn Station, New York about a year and a half ago. Joey wanted to pop the question where the adorable couple first met. “I proposed by getting his best friend to bring him to Penn Station to meet another friend,” Joey told OutBuzz. “When he walked into Penn Station, I had a five-person Mariachi band playing his favorite song and had him walk down the long staircase of the Penn Station rotunda. Then I got down on one knee and asked if he would marry me as we were both crying tears of joy.”

Ellie Hall, a reported for BuzzFeed who was randomly walking through the terminal took to Twitter to exclaim, “In conclusion, New York City, you are sometimes full of beauty and joy and love in the most unexpected of places at the most needed of times.” She went on to write, “I wasn’t the only traveler who teared up watching the proposal, by the way. Heard more than one person say, ‘I really needed this today.’”

And then the entire flow of Penn Station seemed to stop to take in this beautiful moment when there is so much darkness surrounding us right now.

The Mariachi band played, “El Milagro en Tus Ojos,” which means the miracle in your eye. Mariachi bands always reminded Julio of back home.

“We had about 20 friends there to support us,” Joey went on to tell OutBuzz, “And then the entire flow of Penn Station seemed to stop to take in this beautiful moment when there is so much darkness surrounding us right now.”

Joey, a model with Wilhelmina Models had planned in advance to propose to Julio, a photographer and stylist, on this date. “The election didn’t influence our decision to get married.” Joey continued, “The proposal was planned already for today. But it took on a whole new meaning after the results of the election.”

Although the election didn’t affect the date that Joey planned to propose, it did hasten their planned wedding date. Joey and Julio are slated to get married before the end of the year—before President Obama leaves office.

We can’t wait to see the wedding pics!
