I do not believe there is such thing as a “successful” open-relationship.
About Alfi Alvarez
My name is Alfi and I am a gay independent professional singer-songwriter and musician from New Jersey. I am a Jersey boy through and through, and proud of it. I have been writing songs and playing in bands since high school. After spending years of starting bands and joining other bands, I got fed up with the lack of dedication from the other members and their personal drama. I instead decided to go solo and focus on my own music. I write, perform, record and mix my own music and do it all in my room. In 2018, I released my debut EP of four songs called Demo Tape. I mainly play guitar, piano, bass and sing while getting by on the drums.
Artists who have played a major influence in my music are not your typical Top 40 icons. I grew up mesmerized by artists such as Neil Young, Tom Waits, David Bowie and John Lennon. I always admired artists who put their personal lives and struggles in their own songs and I strive to do the same. My songs have all come from a personal place. "Heartbreaker" is a song about a toxic relationship and no good cheater. It was a song inspired by a couple my boyfriend and I knew of and whose relationship went down fast. "Love is on the Rise" is a song I wrote while being single and struggling through the dating scene, which in the gay community, can be pretty deceiving and toxic. Not to say dating in general isn't difficult for everyone, but there are many life-style choices different from the hetero scene that I faced and struggled with. "Pocket Full of Dynamite" is a guitar-rock inspired song about the glamor of drugs and the warning signs we don't heed at first. Addiction is something that runs in my family so drugs is something I often reference or sing about in my songs; especially since the use of certain drugs among sex-positive men is becoming more of a norm. At one point, I did my fair share of experimenting and felt nothing but hollow afterwards. I know, just like so many other people do, that life isn't always a party. At some point, reality, guilt and denial set in afterwards, and it's that vulnerability I love to explore and write about. I have always felt that artists are no different than reporters with the only difference being that we report through a different medium.
