Soap Opera fans will recognize Michael Fairman as the former host of NBC’s ‘Inside Salem: Days of our Lives Podcast.’ These days, the silver fox has gone back to his first love of music. His new single, “Other Side,” is a mid-tempo pop/soul track about ageism, personal struggles, and finding ones inner-strength to face adversity and ultimately triumph. Let’s get to know Michael a little better.
Hi Michael. Let’s start with the most pressing question. Boxers or briefs?
The city you lost your virginity in?
The city of Angels, Los Angeles.
What makes you smile the most?
Triumph over tragedy stories.
If you could switch lives with someone for a day who would it be?
Shawn Mendes. I want to know what it would be like going from town to town, performing live to thousands of screaming fans.
What job would you never want to do?
Waiter. I tried it many years ago. I hated people barking orders at me. I have great appreciation for waiters, the work they do, and their patience with customers.
What is a job you’d love to try?
Sports play-by-play commentator for ESPN, NBA, MLB, or major sports leagues. I’m a sports junkie and sit and watch ESPN a lot on my downtime.
Favorite body part to work out?
Favorite way to relax and chill?
Putting on some great music and winding down with my favorite addiction, Diet Peach Snapples.
What’s the coolest thing in the world?
That in the day and age we live, we can connect instantly with people via social media.
If your life was a song what would the title be?
“Are You Kidding Me?”
Favorite place to visit?
A recording studio. Stepping into the booth to cut vocals can be nerve-racking but also such a rush. I love the creative process.
If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Zap the world of pandemics and physical strife illnesses so no one has to suffer in pain needlessly.
You are stuck on an island, you can pick one food to eat forever without getting tired of it, what would you eat?
Chicken, I need protein. Sorry Chickens.
You can have one companion with you on the island. Who would it be?
Judith Light. She is one of the greatest actresses of all-time and has done so much for the LGBTQ community.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever given?
My singing voice. I feel blessed that I never had to really “work” at it.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?
After my mother died from Alzheimer’s disease, my sister sent me a collection of all the old letters and drawings I did for my mom as a little boy. Plus, she gave me a folder my mom kept of all the things in my youth. It was like this time capsule that I never knew she kept or even existed. Breaks my heart, but so glad I have.
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Pistachio Almond Fudge, but I can’t eat ice-cream anymore. Lactose-intolerant.
Favorite show to binge on right now?
I got myself stuck and obsessed with this season of The Bachelor.
Favorite song to get down and dirty to?
Zayn’s “Pillow Talk.”
What’s your go-to Starbucks order?
Venti Sumatra on the Clover and add in an Egg-white bite to that order.
#1 quality you look for in that special someone?
Be Young at Heart.
Would you date another musician?
I would date a musician, but not another singer.
You like someone a lot – where do you take them on your first date?
To a great restaurant, where we can stare across the table and make googly eyes at each other.
If you could go to any concert (past or present), who would you see?
Number one person living or deceased who you would love to meet?
Barack or Michelle Obama.

Adele. I would love to sing “Rolling in the Deep” with her.

What is your favorite book of all time?
“I Tina” – The Tina Turner Story.
What inspires you?
An amazing performance by a musical artist.
20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s – best decade?
I think for a man, 40’s is when it all comes together. At least it did for me, but I would say the most fun I had was in my 30’s.
What are you passionate about?
Stopping bullying of our LGBTQ Youth.
One word that describes you best?
The priciest thing you’ve ever splurged on?
A heavy metal Italian dining room table where the chairs weigh 100 lbs each. Not practical.
You get hit by a truck. What does it say on your tombstone?
He got hit in the end, but he made a lot of hits along the way.
